Curators from V&A Museum Come to Visit (2013-05-25)
2018-01-08
On the afternoon of May 25, five curators from the V&A Museum (British National Victoria and Albert Museum) came to CNSM in preparation for their next exhibition: “Masterpieces of Chinese Painting 700 - 1900”. In traditional Chinese painting, silk is used for both mounting and painting surface. The curators wanted to examine how this central material is made using traditional techniques, as shown by the CNSM in their Weaving Gallery.

Zhou Yang, deputy director of technical department and Yu Nannan, docent in English, interpret the exhibitions. They are surprised to find out several western motifs such as winged horse, Titan, carefully inquired about the exhibiting of different kinds of cocoon, and silk floss, etc., and highly praise of the job CNSM has done in textile conservation.
