Miao Costumes in Guizhou exhibition opened in China National Silk Museum

The opening ceremony of Miao Costumes in Guizhou exhibition and the Night of Silk were held in Fashion Gallery of China National Silk Museum at 4pm on March 16. 


 

The exhibition of Miao Costumes in Guizhou is jointly organized by China National Silk Museum and Guizhou Provincial Museum, and co-organized by the Intangible Cultural heritage protection center of Guizhou province. The exhibition is free for charge to public from March 16 to May 20, 2018 at the first floor of Fashion Gallery.  


 

The opening ceremony was hosted by Zhou yang, the assistant of museum curator. Wang man, the Party Secretary of Guizhou Provincial Museum, and Zhao feng, the curator of China National Silk Museum, addressed the opening ceremony and jointly unveiled the exhibition.


 

In the speech, Wang man said,“against the background of the cultural development and prosperity of the new era, Miao Costumes in Guizhou exhibition is jointly organized by China National Silk Museum and Guizhou Provincial Museum to introduce the Miao costume culture and present a cultucal feast of Miao costume art for audiences.”


 


The museum curator, Zhao feng stressed,“since the completion of the new gallery, China Silk Museum has been dedicated to the creation of textile special exhibition for ethnic minorities. Last year, we have held the Zhuang Customes exhibition, and the Miao customes exhibition in this year. The series of exhibitions is a special exhibition of ethnology and anthropology, we will continue to launch other ethnic costumes exhibitions, and expand our target to overseas in the future.”


 

Miao is an ancient nationality with the largest distribution in Guizhou province. The exhibition is composed of four units, to display the Miao clothing comprehensively, to show the strong national culture in Miao costumes, to introduce the Miao’s costumes technology, such as embroidery, batic and weaving skills, and also to display the exquisite silver ornaments which represent the highest craft level of Miao. The exhibition displays more than 180 Miao costumes and accessories which come from the museum collection in Guizhou Provincial Museum.



 

 

After the opening ceremony, the Guizhou Provincial Museum’s docent, who worn Miao costume, guided the visitors. 


 

Zhang guilin, the researcher from Guizhou Provincial Museum, brought a lecture entitled “Art of Miao costumes in Guizhou” to the public to introduce Miao’s costume technology with history and ethnic culture.


 


The opening ceremony of 2018 the Night of Silk was also held. At the same time, the students from Zhejiang Conservatory of Music brought traditional Miao music to the visitors.

From March 16 to November 17, Brocade Cafe and Fashion Gallery will be opened to public in every Friday and Saturday night. During the period of the Night of Silk, many special events will be launched, such as the Night of Silk Road.
