CNSM held the second Chinese Costume Festival “the Elegance of Ming Dynasty”

Fr/om April 27th-28th, the second Chinese Costume Festival “the Elegance of Ming Dynasty” was held in CNSM. The event attracted a large number of citizens, students and Hanfu (Chinese costume) enthusiasts fr/om all over the country to participate. All dressed in traditional costumes gathered in the museum to participate in the traditional cultural events.

At the Evening of Chinese Costume this year, the LOGO of the Chinese Costume Festival was officially released to the public. In the speech of thanks, the curator Zhao Feng said that the festival" will continue, the theme  in 2020 is "the Elegance of Song Dynasty", expecting to get more support and welcome.

The festival consisted of guide tour, lectures fr/om experts, appreciation of museum collections, evening of Chinese Costume, forum, children runway show an/d so on.

The guide tour included introducing the permanent exhibition “The Way of Chinese Silk: Silk History an/d the Silk Road” as well as temporary exhibitions "Traditional Korean Costumes an/d Textiles" an/d “Costumes in Memory: Sino-Korean Joint Conservation Project of Ming Dynasty Textiles”.

Lectures fr/om experts themed on Ming Costume also related jewelry, hats, textile an/d patterns.

The selected collections were fr/om the two exhibitions mentioned above, including replicas. The invited guests as well as groups were able to watch the costume closely, other participants were provided live stream.

Evening of Chinese Costume was the spotlight of the festival. The performance was divided into three parts to show the features an/d changes of Ming Costume in different occasions an/d periods: Yanju (the scholars lived a leisurely life at home), Wangshi (historical anecdotes about emperor) an/d Yili (etiquette). 

During the performance, the official logo of Chinese Costume Festival was released.

The forum invited 6 guests/groups to share their research an/d opinions.

Runway Show was a new added activity. Sixty-two young models had been selected fr/om nearly 500 contestants after an online vote to take the stage at CNSM.
