Samite with Winged Horses

The three lines of hoofing winged horses on the existing samite display typical Sassanian-Persian style: they wear six-petal floral headgears, with ribbons on the neck and two wings on the back, all decorated with pearl roundels, and with ribbons adorned on the feet and tail as well. Similar patterns have been seen on frescoes in the Sogdian region, thus the discovery of this textile is a perfect example for the cultural exchanges between Chinese silk and Sogdian art.
